At the end of 2025, we packed up everything and made the move across the country from California to North Carolina, with our dog Athena (who is an anxious German Shepard)! My husband is in the military and while this wasn't our first move because of orders, this was our first PCS across the country! The drive itself became part of the experience, with stops at some really beautiful and memorable places along the way! We stopped in Flagstaff AZ, Amarillo TX, Little Rock AR, and Knoxville TN. The Big Texan Motel in Amarillo was definitely a highlight of the trip! The themed room was a fun touch and the steak house across the street hit the spot after a long day of travel!
We arrived at our new home just before Christmas! Since then, life has been a mix of settling in and exploring. We spent the holidays unpacking and getting comfortable in our new space! As the new year began, we jumped into a few home projects—"redoing" the spare bathroom and giving one of our closets a much-needed refresh. There’s something really satisfying about slowly making a space feel like your own.
One of the most memorable moments so far has been experiencing our first real snowstorm here. It was equal parts exciting and surreal—especially coming from the desert. Athena absolutely loved it, which made it even better. Watching her run around the backyard like it was the best day ever is definitely a memory I’ll hold onto!
As the weeks have gone on, we’ve started exploring more of the area around us. From walking through the beautiful Airlie Gardens in Wilmington NC, going to battle of the breweries at the Carolina Home and Gardens, and nature walks in local parks, it’s been so fun getting to know this new environment. There’s a completely different kind of beauty here—lush, coastal, and full of character—and it’s been incredibly inspiring, both personally and creatively.
On the business side, this season has been just as exciting! I’ve been scouting new locations for photoshoots, connecting with local photographers and brides for upcoming weddings, and have done a few model calls and styled shoots. Getting to build and grow in a new place has been such a rewarding challenge, and I’m feeling really energized by all the possibilities ahead!
So far, North Carolina has been everything we hoped for and more. It already feels like home, and I’m so excited to continue exploring, creating, and building a life here over the next couple of the years.
If you’re local or have spent time in Eastern North Carolina (Jacksonville, Wilimington, New Bern, etc), I would absolutely love to hear your recommendations—whether it’s your favorite hidden gem, a beautiful photo location, a local coffee shop, or just a place you think we shouldn’t miss. We’re always looking for new spots to explore!
